United States of America entered the Second world war on 7 December 1941. 6 June 1944 opened a Western front in Europe. Acted American troops in France the main way in Normandy, Italy Tunisia Algeria Morocco Germany the Netherlands Belgium and Luxembourg as well as in the Pacific and Southeast Asia. The US lost in world war II 418 000 people1. The biggest loss for the American army was in the battle of the bulge 19,000 people dead. After her number of losses coming battle for Okinawa Normandy operation, the battle of Monte Cassino and the battle of Iwo Jima. The battle of midway was a turning point in the war in the Pacific.
On the island of New Guinea, the Japanese were advancing towards Port Moresby, but American-Australian troops under the command of General Douglas MacArthur stopped them. 7 August 1942 American Marines landed on the island of Guadalcanal and captured a Japanese airfield. In September-October 1942 the Japanese launched several counterattacks but to no avail. 9 February 1943 the Americans took over the Guadalcanal July-August 1943 captured the southern and Central part of the archipelago
